Eastkan Samovar
Samovar is a heated metal container traditionally used to heat and boil water in and around Russia, typically used to make tea. It was intorduced to the Hijazi and Hadrami community by The Ottomans. Since then it became part of the heritage of the region, however, it was not made locally and still imported from Turkey, Bagdad and Russia. I was exposed to Samovar since I was a child from my Mother’s family, and I always thought that it was a Hadrami heritage. For that reason I want to make a Samovar inspired by our traditions and culture that can find a space in today’s contemporary living rooms.
Easrkan Process
To start with this project I had to have a base to start from. Since there wasn’t any locally made Samovar, I had to imagine what would it look like if it was being made by looking to similar objects such tea pots. as I thought about it, Samovar represents hospitality and Generosity similar to the Palm tree in Saudi. Which is why I choose the Palm tree as an inspiration for the shape of the Samovar.
Palm tree is very vertical however it reaches down by providing goods, dates, and shade to the ground.
